Gastronomic autumn weekend in Røros

Welcome to a unique gastronomic weekend in Røros from 23 - 25 September 2022

Are you looking for a unique experience? Join us at a pop-up restaurant with Klempe & Dons at Vertshuset Røros from 23 – 25 September.

The combination of local ingredients and Trøndelag hospitality has led to Trondheim-Trøndelag becoming the first region in Norway to be awarded the prestigious title of the European Region of Gastronomy.

We are arranging several events in Trondheim-Trøndelag – the European Region of Gastronomy 2022 – where people can meet to eat together in places they don’t usually eat.

Package 1 – gastronomic weekend in Røros

Stay in cosy rooms and apartments in the heart of the beautiful mining town of Røros with exciting shops, hiking areas, art and culture just steps away.

Vertshuset Røros offers comfortable hotel rooms in the centre of Røros with roots dating back to the 17th century. The restaurant offers tasty meals based on the finest local ingredients and culinary traditions.

At Vertshuset Røros you stay in, and are surrounded by, historic architecture, yet get the clear feeling of being in a vibrant town. Your room is just a stone’s throw away from the iconic Røros church, Bergstaden Ziir.

A local menu at Vertshuset Røros – Friday evening

On Friday evening, we serve a 3-course dinner in the restaurant at Vertshuset Røros.

Unique pop-up restaurant on Saturday evening – in cooperation with Klempe & Dons and Vertshuset Røros

This promises to be a unique gastronomic experience in historical surroundings in the World Heritage town of Røros.

It will be a rustic event that is partly indoors and partly outdoors. This evening’s culinary experience features dishes and drinks paired to complement each other. Four food artists meet to create a pop-up event in historic surroundings.

Eline Haugan Bordvik and Aleksander Storm are head chefs at Vertshuset Røros. Eline served her apprenticeship as a chef at Credo in Trondheim. She has worked at restaurants such as the world-famous NOMA in Copenhagen and their pop-up restaurant in Mexico, and the Michelin-starred restaurant KOKS in the Faroe Islands. Aleksander’s background includes working with Bent Stiansen at Statholdergården, as well as at Ylajali in Oslo, 5 Stuer at Holmenkollen Park Hotel and Røst Teaterbistro in Trondheim.

They have now chosen to settle down in Eline’s hometown – the local food capital Røros.

Klempe & Dons

Klempe & Dons is a pop-up concept created by chef Håvard Klempe and bartender Jørgen Dons. Håvard Klempe is a former head chef at Credo and Bula Bistro and is now head chef. Jørgen Dons, who was once named as the best bartender in the Nordic region, runs one of Norway’s leading bars: Raus in Trondheim. Klempe and Dons both love introducing people to new things. Consequently, in collaboration with the chefs from Vertshuset Røros, they will create food and drinks that have not previously been made from local ingredients from Trøndelag. They promise an evening filled with humour and exciting flavours.

The aperitif will be served in the historic street Sleggvegen in Røros before we continue to the backyard at Kaffestuggu. Please note that this is a rustic venue upstairs with an opening out to the backyard. We will sit on benches with seating pads from Røros Tweed, so it’s important to dress based on the weather and temperature. Blankets will be handed out to those who need one.

Kaffestuggu – historic setting for a pop-up restaurant

Kaffestuggu is the oldest eating establishment in Røros and has history within the walls. We set up a pop-up restaurant in the backyard on both floors of an old stable. It will be an informal atmosphere and an opportunity to meet different people. The building dates from the 18th and 19th century and has an opening out towards the backyard.
